Abstract:

Carotid artery is the most important artery that carries the major part of the blood supply to the head and neck. The branching of the common carotid artery usually occurs at the upper edge of the thyroid cartilage. The placement of carotid sinus has also increased its importance in this area. Considering the clinical importance of knowledge about carotid artery variations, this case is reported. During the routine dissection of a 55-year-old man, a unilateral variation of right common carotid artery was found in the dissection saloon of School of Medicine. This artery was divided into two branches at the inferior border of the thyroid cartilage. The left common carotid artery was branched at the superior border of the thyroid cartilage. Knowledge of carotid artery variations is necessary for anatomists, neurosurgeons, in neck, ENT, and jaw surgeries as well as for angiography, catheterization and carotid arterectomy.

Trifurcation of the right common carotid artery

Variations in the position of the bifurcation of the common carotid artery and the origin or branching pattern of the external carotid artery are well known and documented. Here, we report the trifurcation of the right common carotid artery in a male cadaver aged about 55 years. The right common carotid artery was found to divide into the external and internal carotids and the occipital artery....

A Case Report of Renal Artery Variation

Awareness of the presence of the accessory renal artery in kidney transplant, treatment of renal artery stenosis, clinical assessment of renal vascular hypertension, radiology and angiography interventions is very helpful. In 30% of cases the accessory renal artery is separated from the abdominal aorta and in most cases, this artery along with the main artery entered to the kidney through t...

Case Report: A Rare Variation in Origin of Common Interosseous Artery: A Review of Anatomical Studies and Case Report

An unusual origin of the common interosseous artery is reported in the paper. During educational dissection of a 37-year-old male, a rare variation in the origin of common interosseous artery of the right upper limb was observed. The common interosseous artery directly separated from radial artery. The right anterior interosseous artery is continued from common interosseous artery. Anterior and...

Rare Variation in the Right Vertebral Artery

The variations of vertebral artery are important with regard to their potential clinical impact .The study reports the variation of course of right vertebral artery in male cadaver. The vertebral arteries arise from the superioposterior aspect of the first part of subclavian artery. The vessel takes a vertical course to enter into the transverse foramen of sixth cervical vertebra. Right vertebr...
